Happy New Year!
Hope you enjoyed your holiday season. Christmas has come and gone, and now it’s time to get back to work. I was never one to make new year resolutions. I always heard of people making them and then forgetting about them come February, but I never really got into it.
This year I am.
At the end of 2015 I determined that I need to not only detox my body, but also my mind and spirit. I’ve allowed social media and self beautification distract me from what’s important as a servant of Christ.
My church does a 21 day fast/consecration every January. I decided that this year I would take this time to take a step further in drawing near to God. I’ve found myself discontent and frustrated because of where God’s sovereignty has put me. So I pray that as I draw closer to Him and put my head down in submission, I would no longer have the time nor desire to look up and complain about my circumstances.
Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
(James 4:5-8 ESV)
Drawing near to God is first on my list and what follows is the typical eat better and workout more. However, I also plan to read more this year. I love reading but I haven’t done much of it in 2015 aside from my daily devotions and occasional articles via my mother and Twitter. 😀
So those are a few of my 2016 resolutions. Yes it’s a new year, but I know that the new me is found in the One who makes all things new. My prayer is that over time, God will continue to transform me into who He desires me to be.
Thank you so much for reading!
